Supporters of imprisoned Native American rights activist Leonard Peltier will be a holding a concert Friday in New York to raise awareness of Peltier’s case. A member of the American Indian Movement (AIM), Peltier has languished in prison since his 1977 conviction for first degree murder in the killing of two FBI agents on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. The FBI’s case against Peltier is riddled with holes and doubts have been raised over the fairness of his trial. Amnesty International considers Peltier a political prisoner. His next scheduled parole hearing won’t occur until the year 2224. In the meantime, Peltier’s supporters are calling on President Obama to issue a pardon. Great cause. KAren
Here’s another poem he wrote, borrowed from a favorite song:
Somewhere over my cell bro
I’ll fly high,
There’s a scam I hadn’t thought of,
One in another lie.
Someday I’ll wish upon a bar
And wake up where my buddies are far
Behind me.
Where bubbles smell like prison mops
Away above my chubby tops
That’s where you’ll find me.
